There are four main categories of scooters, and each category has different styles. The categories consist of kick scooters, three wheel scooters, electric scooters and gas scooters.
Most kick scooters are light weight weighing around 6 pounds and collapse for easy storage. The wheels are small roller blade wheels which allow a faster, smoother ride than skate boards. The kick scooter is used much like a skate board by using one foot to push the ground to gain speed. Many kick scooters can be used to do many different types of tricks.
Three Wheel Scooter
The three wheel scooter is much like the kick scooter, but it has three wheels and there is no kicking or pushing required. To pick up speed you simple shift your weight from left to right and the scooter leans in unison allowing it to reach speeds of up to 18 mph.
Electric scooters are powered by a battery and can travel around 12 miles on a single charge. Most electric scooters take five hours to recharge the battery. They can travel anywhere from 13-20 mph. There are two different styles of electric scooters, those where you stand and those that have a seat to sit on. The advantages of an electric scooter is how quiet they are and the are not pollutant.
Gas scooters can reach speeds of up to 40 mph. They are powered by regular gasoline and most gas scooters hold around a liter of gas. That amount usually lasts for 2-3 hours. The advantages of a gas scooter is their speed, and the fact that once you run out of gas, you just have to add more to continue riding. Unlike an electric scooter which requires hours to recharge.
